AKWorld recently hosted a private conversation with Director General May Lin, offering members an opportunity to hear directly about Taiwan’s role in East Asia, its relationship with the United States, and its growing connections with Alaska.
Director General Lin described Taiwan as an important example of democracy and a strong supporter of human rights in East Asia. The conversation also focused on the importance of building relationships beyond government-to-government diplomacy. Taiwan’s interest in strengthening connections with the United States includes opportunities to build deeper ties with Alaska through trade, technology, education, and culture.
The conversation offered a small group of AKWorld members a valuable opportunity to better understand Taiwan’s perspective and build relationships at a time when the island sits at the intersection of some of the most important economic, political, and security questions facing the Indo-Pacific.
