A born-and-raised Alaskan, Zach Brown, Ph.D., spent years aboard ice breaking vessels in the Arctic and Antarctic, studying how warming and sea ice loss affect the polar seas and their inhabitants.  Driven to do more to protect our living world, upon completing his doctoral studies, Zach set off on a 4-month, 2300-mile solo trek, hiking and paddling from California back home to Alaska.  His goal was to found Inian Islands Institute, a field school dedicated to education, science, and environmental leadership, where he now serves as executive director.  Zach lives and breathes climate change as a scientist, educator, and activist.
