We’re excited to announce a new way to connect, learn, and spark conversation: the Alaska World Affairs Council Book Club!
Each month, we’ll gather to explore books that open doors to new perspectives on our interconnected world. From memoirs by global leaders to works of international fiction, history, and journalism, every selection will help us think more deeply about the people, places, and ideas shaping our times.
The book club will meet monthly in Eagle River and is open to anyone who enjoys good books and great conversation. Whether you’re a lifelong reader or just looking for a reason to pick up something new, this is a welcoming space to share ideas, ask questions, and connect with fellow globally minded Alaskans.
Why join?
Engage with international ideas through thought-provoking books.
Connect locally with others who are curious about the world.
Discover new perspectives that challenge and inspire.

First Meeting
Date: Thursday, November 13
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Location: Corks & Hops, Eagle River
Book: Inside the Reagan White House by Frank Lavin
Details: This meeting will take place during Cork & Hops’ Pour Decisions event. Guests may enjoy a wine flight and paired bites if they choose, or simply order from the menu.
Our first selection, Inside the Reagan White House, offers a fascinating insider’s view of diplomacy, leadership, and decision-making during a pivotal time in U.S. history.
This pick is especially exciting because author Frank Lavin will be in Alaska on December 4 for a special presentation with the Council. Book club participants are encouraged to join us for this program to take the conversation even further—and have the chance to engage directly with the author during a live Q&A.
We hope you’ll join us as we launch this new chapter of community and conversation.
