Last week, the Alaska World Affairs Council was honored to welcome three distinguished guests: Ambassador Bergdís Ellertsdóttir, Ambassador-at-Large for Arctic Affairs (Iceland); Ambassador Kenneth Høegh, Chair of the Senior Arctic Officials, Arctic Council (Denmark/Greenland); and Mr. Torsten K. Nielsen, Senior Arctic Official, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Denmark). Together, they engaged us in a rich conversation about Arctic collaboration and the vital connections that shape this rapidly evolving region.

Our guests shared insights into the importance of international cooperation in addressing the unique challenges facing the Arctic, from environmental stewardship to geopolitical dynamics. Their perspectives highlighted how partnerships across borders can foster sustainable development and ensure the Arctic remains a region of peace and opportunity.

Events like this remind us of the power of dialogue in strengthening community bonds and deepening our understanding of global issues. We are grateful to Arctic Encounter for their partnership in bringing this program to life and to Cowork by RSD for providing such a welcoming space for our gathering.

Engaging with our community in meaningful ways like this is at the heart of what we do at the Alaska World Affairs Council. We look forward to continuing these important conversations through upcoming programs and invite everyone to stay connected and involved.

We were proud to partner with Arctic Encounter Symposium on this program.

The Arctic Encounter Symposium (AES) is the largest annual Arctic policy and business event in the United States. AES aims to confront the shared interests and concerns of the United States and the global community as we look north to the last emerging frontier – the Arctic. Policymakers, diplomats, indigenous leaders, industry innovators, diverse stakeholders, national security officials, and leading experts from the science, technology, maritime, research, startup, investment, health, and energy sectors come together at AES to challenge the status quo dialogue, critically address challenges, and collaborate on solutions. AES also features major cultural productions, including live performances, the Far North Fashion Show, northern and traditional artist vendors, and more.

The Arctic Encounter is a 501(c)3 NGO based in Alaska.
