Following Governor Mike Dunleavy’s visit to the UAE in January, we invite you to join us for a conversation with Hussein El Gaafary, Head of Energy, Environment, and Water Initiatives at the UAE Embassy, to explore the growing partnership between the UAE and Alaska. For over 50 years, the UAE and US have maintained a strong relationship spanning trade and investment, strategic cooperation, and exchanges in healthcare, education, and the arts. Energy is a central part of the bilateral relationship, with the UAE recently announcing plans to reach $440 billion of energy investments in the US by 2035. Mr. El Gaafary will engage in a conversation with members about the UAE-US partnership, including how the two countries are collaborating to is spearhead energy innovation. 

About the Speaker

Hussein El Gaafary is Head of Energy, Environment and Water Initiatives at the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC, where he leads efforts to advance the UAE's energy and environmental agenda in partnership with the United States. His work focuses on fostering government and private sector cooperation to enhance energy affordability, security, and accessibility, while championing the UAE’s leadership in clean energy innovation and sustainability.

Over the past decade, Hussein has played a key role in driving some of the largest US-UAE bilateral trade and investment initiatives. He previously worked in the Embassy’s Trade and Commercial Office and served as a sherpa for the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai. Raised across Egypt, the UAE, and the United States, Hussein is a graduate of George Washington University and previously worked with Lockheed Martin in Abu Dhabi.

  • Those with online reservations do not need to present ticket confirmation at the door, we will have all confirmed attendees on a list at check-in.
