Since this program was offered on a donation basis - please contact us if you made a donation and would like a refund.\n\n\n\nJoin the Alaska World Affairs Council as we partner with the Anchorage Concert Association in welcoming Lyric &\; Spirit: An Int ernational Celebration of Women's Voices presenting Music As Diplomacy.\n\ nLyric &\; Spirit brings together female artists Luisa Lacerda of Bra zil\, Varijashree Venugopal of India and Lenna Bahule of Mozambique to sho wcase the rich musical traditions of their homes. They will not only perfo rm for us\, but will take time to share their experiences of the way musi c can ease tensions by strengthening cross-cultural connections and promot ing peace.\n\n\n\n\nFeatured speakers:\nLenna Bahule is a multi-talented a rtist—a Singer\, Art Educator and Cultural Activist\, born in Maputo\, M ozambique. She's deeply involved in researching exchanges with the afro cu ltures and social movements of her country and other African diasporas.   In Brazil where she lived for 7 years\, she funded research about vocal music and the different ways of using the voice and body as a musical inst rument and for artistic expression.\n\nVarijashree Venugopal was born to m usician parents Sri H.S. Venugopal and Smt. T.V. Rama. She was found to h ave the rare ability to identify about 50 ragas when she was a 18 month ol d toddler and about 200 ragas at the age of 4.\n\nHaving trained in one of the strongest classical forms of music – Carnatic\, Varijashree finds h er own space and unique language by interspersing different genres of musi c and merging into various musical cultures\, yet retaining the authencity of her musical roots. These cross cultural experiments have led to her wo rk as a composer and song - writer spread across a variety of platforms su ch as Playback singing for Films\, Tele soaps\, Theatre productions\, Shor t films\, Albums\, etc.\n\nLuísa Lacerda is a Brazilian singer and guitar ist\, graduated in classical guitar from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and master in musicology from the Federal University of th e State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO). With her melodious voice and refined i nstrumental performance\, she works in the production of her own shows\, d isseminating innovative work\, with emphasis on the dissemination of songs by new composers of the contemporary scene.\n\n\n\n\nPROGRAM DETAILS\n\n We’ve adopted a pay what you can structure for this program.
