DESCRIPTION:\n\nSpeakers - \nJohn Moore\nWith 20 plus years of internationa
 l experience in the service of public\, private and non-profit interests a
 cross the Islamic world\, John Moore brings a unique perspective on the ev
 olution of the political economy of security and development in the region
 .\n\nPrevious professional experience includes working in a variety of hum
 anitarian\, development and commercial roles across parts of South Asia\, 
 the Middle East and East Africa. This includes service with the US Defense
  and State Departments as well as multiple NGOs and international organiza
 tions. Highlights include work with the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanist
 an (UNAMA)\, monitoring of election-related violence in Iraq\, and support
  for the National Human Rights Commission in Nepal. Since then Mr. Moore h
 as worked with major energy companies\, advising on socio-economic challen
 ges in the Middle East\, Asia and the Americas. He has lectured at the Aus
 tralian National University’s (ANU) College of Business and Economics on
  the Middle East\, and has guest lectured on the evolution of modern Musli
 m terrorism for ANU’s Center for Arab and Islamic Studies and National S
 ecurity College. John’s core area of interest is the use of political ec
 onomy frameworks of analysis to enable greater understanding of and insigh
 t into complex political\, social and economic environments.\n\nMr. Moore 
 has a Masters Degree in Political Economy and International Security Studi
 es from the Fletcher School at Tufts University\, and a Bachelor of Arts i
 n International Affairs from the Virginia Military Institute. He has also 
 conducted non-degree research at the Center for the Study of Terrorism and
  Political Violence at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and class
 ical literature at St. Anne’s College\, Oxford. He is currently pursuing
  doctoral studies at ANU’s Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy. John is ma
 rried with two sons\, and\, since moving to Alaska\, has adopted a pup.\nL
 t Col Ty Moore\nBorn and raised in Alaska\, Lt Col Moore enlisted in the M
 arine Corps in 1995 as a Reconnaissance Marine in Echo Company\, 4th Recon
 naissance Battalion aboard Elmendorf Air Force Base where he served in a v
 ariety of billets including Reconnaissance Team Leader.\n\nHe received his
  commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1999 after graduating from Virginia Mil
 itary Institute. Following The Basic School and Infantry Officer’s Cours
 e he was assigned to 1st Battalion\, 1st Marine Regiment in Camp Pendleton
 \, CA where he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander on the 15th Marine Expe
 ditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) and 1st Marine Expeditionary B
 rigade (Task Force 58) during its deployment to Camp Rhino Afghanistan as 
 part of Operation Enduring Freedom following the attacks of September 11\,
  2001. Later he served as a Company Executive Officer for the initial inva
 sion of Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF I).\n\nUpon returning fro
 m his second deployment he was assigned to Delta Company\, Marine Security
  Guard Battalion in Ft Lauderdale FL where he served as the Inspecting Off
 icer and Operations Officer. Upon graduation from Expeditionary Warfare Sc
 hool he was assigned to 1st Battalion\, 7th Marine Regiment for duty as th
 e Assistant Operations Officer where he deployed to Hit\, Iraq as part of 
 Regimental Combat Team 5. Later he served as a Rifle Company Commander wit
 h Regimental Combat Team 6 and deployed to Combat Outpost Viking near Fall
 ujah\, Iraq.\n\nUpon graduation from Naval Postgraduate School and the Nav
 al War College\, LtCol Moore was assigned to III Marine Expeditionary Forc
 e in Okinawa\, Japan where he served as a Military Planner and Regional Af
 fairs Officer. He was later assigned to 3d Battalion\, 3d Marine Regiment 
 on Marine Corps Base\, Kaneohe\, HI where he served as the Battalion Execu
 tive Officer. Following a deployment to Okinawa\, Japan he was later assig
 ned as the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Liaison Officer to Special O
 perations Command\, Pacific. He was then assigned to 3d Marine Regiment wh
 ere he served as the Assistant Operations Officer and subsequently assumed
  the duties of Operations Officer before his current assignment as Homelan
 d Defense Planner\, Alaska NORAD Region and Alaskan Command\, Joint Base E
 lmendorf-Richardson\, Alaska.\n\nLtCol Moore is a graduate of the Marine C
 orps Basic Infantryman’s Course and Infantry Officer Course\, The Marine
  Corps Tactical Marine Air-Ground Team Integration Course\, Expeditionary 
 Warfare School\, The Naval Postgraduate School\, The Naval War College\, a
 nd The U.S. Army Red Team Course. He holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree i
 n International Relations from Virginia Military Institute\, and a Master
 ’s of Arts degree in Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School
 . He is an Operations and Tactics Instructor\, Marine Corps Martial Arts I
 nstructor (Black Belt)\, Water Survival Instructor\, and graduate of the C
 old Weather Survival and Airborne Schools.\n\nLtCol Moore is married to th
 e former Miss Jennifer N. Steffen of Anchorage\, Alaska and they have thre
 e children: Isabella age 12\, Penelope age 10\, and Nathaniel age 8.\n\n\n
