Educator Opportunities
Thanks to ConocoPhillips and the Atwood Foundation for their generous sponsorship of student programming.
In-School Speaker Visits
Bring global perspectives directly to your classroom. Local experts and visiting international speakers are available to visit high schools and university classrooms throughout the year, speaking to individual classes, assemblies, or larger student groups when scheduling allows.
Because many of our visiting speakers have limited time in Alaska, requests should be submitted as early as possible. Visiting speakers may only be available to visit one school during their stay in Anchorage.
To request a speaker, contact AKWorld. We recommend submitting requests well in advance of your preferred date due to limited speaker availability.
Student Lunch Programs
Selected speakers participate in student lunch presentations where high school and middle school student groups enjoy a complimentary lunch, while learning from experts in their fields. These programs provide unique opportunities for students to learn directly from experts, ask questions in a room full of other students, and explore career paths with international experts. Educators should contact AKWorld to register interest for these programs. AKWorld staff will reach out to interested groups as these opportunities are identified.
Public Speaker Programs
All students (K-12 and University) receive complimentary admission to Alaska World Affairs public programs throughout the year, providing opportunities to hear directly from world-renowned speakers, ask questions, and connect with community leaders. Students may register themselves via the “Free Admission” ticket option available on each program page. While these programs are not addressed to students in the same way the student lunch programs are, students regularly attend and enjoy the programming.
Academic WorldQuest
Academic WorldQuest, the World Affairs Councils of America’s flagship youth education program, is a fun, fast-paced team competition for high school students. Teachers and club sponsors are encouraged to learn more on the World Affairs Council of America’s website and reach out to AKWorld staff for questions and support.
Together, we’re helping Alaska students build the global awareness, critical thinking, and international perspective they’ll carry into college, careers, and their communities.
Educators: Speakers in Schools
Local and visiting speakers can be requested by teachers to speak to classrooms or large groups of students. Thank you to ConocoPhillips!
Requests for speakers should be submitted prior to a desired host date. Due to limited availability, visiting speakers may only be able to speak at one school during their visit to Anchorage. Visiting speaker bios can be found on the event page for their public program.
Please contact Siobhan Choi, Operations Director, at siobhan.choi@alaskaworldaffairs.org with questions about hosting a speaker for your students or fill out the request form below.
