Congratulations to the
Alaska World Affairs Council

The Alaska
World Affairs Council is
thrilled to be recognized by
the State of Alaska as a
recipient of one of the 2009
Governor’s North Star Awards
for International Excellence
which recognizes
accomplishments and success
of international activities
that have occurred in the
past five years. The awards
were presented by
Commissioner Emil Notti at
the Export Alaska luncheon
in Anchorage on May 20,
attended by more than 150
Alaskans. The winners this
year were Condor Airlines,
ADS-B Technologies,
Ketchikan Kanayama Exchange,
Koniag Corporation and
Alutiiq Museum, Alaska World
Affairs Council, and Rotary
District 5010.
The Alaska World Affairs
Council is a focused
educational organization
dedicated to stimulating
interest in world affairs
and inspiring its members to
be involved in world events.
The council was founded in
1958 by the late Evangeline
Atwood with the conviction
that better community
education in world affairs
is necessary for sound
democratic citizenship. The
Council does not take a
stand on current-day issues
but rather provides the
population a wide spectrum
of viewpoints and background
information through its
diverse range of programs
and activities.
The Alaska World Affairs
Council is a 501 (c) 3
non-profit, non-partisan
organization which is
membership-based and is one
of approximately 90 members
of the
World Affairs Councils of
America in Washington,
DC. Click here to view our
purpose.

The Alaska World Affairs
Council works in
partnership with KSKA, KAKM,
APRN, and KACN.
"...Americans should make
a serious effort to
understand other cultures
and learn foreign languages.
Our interaction with the
rest of the world must be a
conversation, not a
monologue. And America must
remain open to visitors and
workers and students from
around the world, without
compromising our security
standards. If our public
diplomacy efforts are to
succeed, we cannot close
ourselves off from the
world."
Former Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice
