Robert K. Musil, Ph.D.,
M.P.H., L.H.D., Senior
Fellow at the Center for
Congressional and
Presidential Studies,
American University; Former
Executive Director and CEO,
Physicians for Social
Responsibility, Nobel Peace
Prize, 1985
Robert K. Musil, PhD, MPH,
LHD was the longest-serving
Executive Director and CEO
of Physicians for Social
Responsibility (PSR), winner
of the 1985 Nobel Prize for
Peace. During his tenure
(1992-2006), he nearly
tripled PSR’s membership,
budget, and staff. He is a
graduate of Yale and
Northwestern Universities
and the Johns Hopkins School
of Public Health and has
been a Visiting Honorary
Fellow at the London School
of Hygiene and Tropical
Medicine and of Pembroke
College, Cambridge
University. He was awarded a
Doctor of Humane Letters (L.H.D.)
from Mitchell College in
May, 2009.
Currently, Dr. Musil is
Senior Fellow at the Center
for Congressional and
Presidential Studies, School
of Public Affairs, American
University and Adjunct
Professor in the School of
International Studies. Dr.
Musil is also a Woodrow
Wilson Foundation Visiting
Fellow and widely sought as
a campus lecturer. He has
also been voted as the
Leonard R. Mellman Visiting
Fellow for 2009 by Temple
University.
Dr. Musil specializes in
contemporary global
security, sustainability,
and health, as well as
strategic communications and
organizational development.
He is the author of the new,
highly-acclaimed Hope for a
Heated Planet: How Americans
are Fighting Global Warming
and for a Better Future
(Rutgers University Press,
2009).
Dr. Musil helped launch
PSR’s environmental program
in the early 1990’s and led
campaigns for safe and
affordable drinking water,
clean air, and to prevent
toxic pollution and global
climate change. As a member
of the Green Group,
representing the nation’s
thirty-four largest
environmental groups, Dr.
Musil met with leading
public figures including
President Bill Clinton, Vice
President Al Gore, and
numerous cabinet members and
Congressional leaders. He
also initiated PSR’s
U.S.-Mexico Border Project
in El Paso and Juarez,
Mexico and has represented
PSR at international
environment negotiations in
Montreal, Kyoto,
Johannesburg, Geneva, and
elsewhere.
Dr. Musil is also a former
Army Captain who taught
communications and policy at
the Defense Information
School, Ft. Benjamin
Harrison, Indiana. From
1978-1992, Dr. Musil was the
Executive Producer and host
of "Consider the
Alternatives" a weekly radio
program syndicated to over
150 stations with 2,000,000
listeners. He is a two-time
winner of the Armstrong
Award for Excellence in
Radio Broadcasting. |
