Joseph Ha is Vice President for International Business and Government Relations at Nike. Dr. Ha currently serves as Professor of International Politics at Portland State University, Lewis & Clark College, and the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is also the Director of the Trans-Pacific Institute and a Nike board member in Japan, Korea, China, and the Philippines. Dr. Ha has served as the New York Regional Director of the Peace Corps, and is a past president of the World Affairs Council of Oregon. He has authored fifty scholarly articles and authored or co-authored seven books.


Joseph M. Ha has been the Vice President of International Business and Government Relations of Nike, Inc. since 1996. Dr. Ha joined Nike in 1981 as a Consultant of Global Business and served until 1996. Dr. Ha undertakes special projects for Nike Chairman. He also supervises Nike's Korea and China businesses, facilitates government relations with other countries, and represents Nike to the boards of public and private organizations. Prior to Nike, Dr. Ha served as an International Students' Counselor and also as a Lecturer at Columbia University. He served as a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Diplomacy and National Security at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as the Chairman of the International Affairs Department of Lewis & Clark College. He serves as a Director of Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America. Dr. Ha participates on a large number of boards. He serves as a Board Member of the President’s Advisory Group of the Chamber of Commerce and Council on Foreign Relations. He serves as a Board Member of the World Affairs Council of America. He also participates on the Advisory Board of the International Sustainable Development Foundation, Board of Governors for APEC and Board of Directors at Columbia University School of International & Public Affairs, and the Japan-American Society of Oregon. He served as a Director of at Pacific Northwest International Trade Association. Dr. Ha has earned numerous awards for his work. In 2004, he was named as an Honorary Citizen of Suzhou Municipalities in Suzhou, China. In 2003, he was named an Honorary Professor of Foshan University in Foshan, China and also the First Honorary Citizen of Taicang, China. Dr. Ha received the Portland Consular Corps’ International Citizenship Award in 2000, the “Man of the Year” award for overseas Koreans in 1998, and the Columbia University Harriman Institute Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1997. Dr. Ha holds many Honorary Doctorate degrees and many Honorary Professorships. He has published numerous scholarly works. Dr. Ha holds a B.A. in Political Science and Economics from the University of Washington in 1958. He earned a Certificate from Harriman (Russian) Institute and School of International and Public Affairs from Columbia University in 1971. He earned a Ph.D. in International Relations from Columbia University in 1971.
