Christopher L. Brown
Research Director, The Southern Center for International Studies, Atlanta, GA
Chris Brown received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Georgia in 1997 and has taught at Sewanee: The University of the South and Georgia State University. He is co-author of twelve Southern Center publications in the “World in Transition” multimedia educational series, including the recently published South Asia in Transition. This series is used in schools and colleges across the United States and has been adapted for use in corporate training sessions and Air Force ROTC training. In 2003, the “World in Transition” series was named a flagship program of the World Affairs Councils of America, and in 2004 Brown was appointed director of this program. Brown also writes essays on a variety of international topics for the SCIS website (www.scis.org) and local publications.

Brown has been Conference Research Director for 19 Peabody-award winning television specials featuring former U.S. Secretaries of State, Defense, and other world leaders. These specials air across the United States on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). His international experience includes serving as a research associate for the Centro de Investigacion para el Desarrollo in Mexico City, Mexico; interning for the United Nations Center for Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs in Vienna, Austria; serving as an election monitor in Nicaragua; participating on a faculty study trip to India sponsored by the Halle Institute of Global Cultural Learning at Emory University; and serving on a leadership mission to Taiwan sponsored by the World Affairs Councils of America. He has participated in numerous conferences in the United States and Europe. He, his wife Juliet, and his daughter Abby live in Atlanta, Georgia.
