Amir Terkel, 35, grew up in
Israel and graduated from
Tel Aviv University. He
served in the Israeli
military for three years as
a conscript soldier and
eight years in the army
reserves. In 2002, he joined
"Courage to Refuse," an
organization of Israeli
reserve officers and
soldiers who publicly refuse
to serve in the Occupied
Territories (www.CourageToRefuse.org).
Amir currently lives in the
San Francisco bay area with
his wife and son. A
filmmaker, he has
participated in filming
several documentaries about
Israelis and Palestinians,
including "Other Voices from
Israel and Palestine," "Holy
Land Common Ground", and
"Occupied Minds". Amir
remains involved in the
Israeli peace movement as
well as the Jewish peace
movement in the US.
Amir’s talk will cover his
years growing up in Israel
enlisting and serving in the
Army, followed by joining
the Israeli Courage to
Refuse Movement thirteen
years later. Amir will show
slides of his experience as
a soldier and civilian in
the West Bank, and having
just returned from Israel,
he will discuss current
developments in the region
and thoughts about resolving
this conflict as well as the
role U.S. policy plays. |
